Get Baptized

What is Baptism?

Baptism is an outward expression of the internal change that takes place in the heart of a believer. It is a symbolic act to profess one’s salvation, and while we do not believe it is a requirement for salvation, it is commanded by God. Baptism is a celebration of a believer’s decision to trust Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

Why water Baptism?

The original Greek word ‘baptizo’ literally means ‘to immerse or dip’. When Jesus was baptized it was by immersion and we see that each account of baptism in the Bible was done in this manner. When we are lowered into the water it represents our old way of life being buried along with Christ in his death. Then we are raised out of the water, just like Jesus was raised from the dead, so we can walk in newness of life.

Romans 6:4, Matthew 3:16

Who can get Baptized?

Baptism is for anyone who has turned from their sin, surrendered their life to Christ, and promise to die to themselves in order to live for Him on a daily basis. Water baptism is a one-time event that takes place after you have put your faith in Jesus. If you were baptized as a baby, prior to making a conscious choice to trust your life to Christ, we would recommend you get baptized now that you have a personal relationship with Jesus.

Why Pray?

Prayer is potentially the greatest life changing privilege we possess if put into practice.  Prayer is our way to communicate with God and for God to communicate with us. Through prayer God hears our heart and we get to know His heart and we are made more Christlike in the process.  Prayer is simply a time for us to talk to God and God to talk to us in total honesty and transparency.

How to Pray?

We are told in the Bible to pray without ceasing and to bring everything to God through prayer  There are two types of prayer. There is focused prayer where you spend time alone with God. During this time many people like using the A.C.T.S. process which stands for Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication.  There is also constant prayer where you communicate with God all day everyday by using various Bible verses and brief sentences or phrases you repeat to God that speak from your heart to God’s heart.

Reading the Bible

“All Scripture is God-breathed.”

The Bible tells us the truth of who God is.  Reading the Bible is your next step to knowing more about God and His promises.  It’s impossible to have a close relationship with someone if you rarely or never talk to them.   The Bible which is God’s word is the primary way He chooses to speak to us.

2 Timothy 3:16

Reading your Bible is the best way to discover how to follow Jesus on a daily basis and know more about God and His promises.  Reading the Bible will give you hope, encouragement, guidance and practical advice for the issues you face every day. We all live real lives and we all face real problems and the Bible gives us real answers.

You might be asking, “How do I begin reading the Bible?”  You can go the App Store and download our Summit Community Church-NC App to follow our Reading Plan
