SOCIAL MEDIA FAST

DIRECTIONS
We are challenging all of Summit Community Church to fast for 7 days from social media and to fill that time with the word of God. Below is a day-by-day prayer guide to help fill your mind with the word of God over these 7 days. Please read the passage, answer the questions, pray the prompts, and sing to the Lord each day.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND

READ: Read Psalm 22:27-28 and spend time answering the following questions:

  • The psalmist is clear, all the earth will turn to Jesus. Entire nations will bow down to Jesus. What does this tell us about our Jesus?

  • How should this truth about Jesus affect us today?

  • V. 28 is clear that Jesus rules over nations. How can this give us hope as we elect a new “ruler” in our nation?

PRAY: Spend time praying through this passage. Take a few minutes to pray by:

  • Praising Jesus as our true ruler who rules above all nations.

  • Asking Him to draw people from all nations to himself today.

  • Asking Him for help seeing His control in all of life, even if we do not understand it.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3RD

READ: Read Matthew 28:18-20 and spend time answering the following questions:

  • What does it mean that all authority in heaven AND earth has been given to Jesus?

  • In light of this authority, what does Jesus say we should be busy doing?

  • Take time to think through your daily life. In what ways is it about making disciples?  In what ways is it not about making disciples?

PRAY: Spend time praying through this passage. Take a few minutes to pray by:

  • Asking God for our church to be more concerned with the spread of the gospel to all people than lesser pursuits.

  • Asking God to give you a deeper desire to use your life, resources, and time to make disciples.

  • Repenting of ways your life is about things other than making much of Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH

READ: Read Romans 13:1-7 and spend time answering the following questions:

  • Who has established our governing authorities?

  • What does dishonoring this authority mean (v. 2)?

  • How do we honor and respect authorities we do not agree with or like?

PRAY: Spend time praying through this passage. Take a few minutes to pray by:

  • Praising God for the servants He has placed in office.

  • Praying for the newly elected officials (local and national) by name.

  • Asking God to help you (and SCC as a whole) to submit, honor, and respect these officers.

  • Asking God for help to see submission as worship to Him because of what He has done for you in Christ.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 5TH

READ: Read Matthew 5:13-16 and spend time answering the following questions:

  • Praying that you (and SCC) would reflect God well to a watching world.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7TH

READ: Read Philippians 3:20-21 and spend time answering the following questions:

  • Now notice we are called "citizens of heaven." How should us being citizens of heaven influence our lives as citizens of America?

  • Where will the power come from for your body to be transformed? What will your body be transformed into?

PRAY: Spend time praying through this passage. Take a few minutes to pray by:

  • Asking for help to live as a foreigner in this world, not as if this world is your home.
